Gakusen Toshi Asterisk gets an ANIME!!!!!

I have no idea who is adapting the anime, but it will probably run till volume 5, let us hope that they do not try to cram everything into a one-cour series (12 or 13 episodes). The anime is scheduled to come out this fall and is being produced by Aniplex.

UPDATE: the anime is being adapted A-1 Pictures.

here’s the trailer:

(It’s in ENGRISH :D)

Now all we need to do is wait for Saijaku Bahamut to be animated to satisfy our Chinese cartoon hunger.

=D yay!!!!! hope it will be a great one…

  2. lygarx says:

congrats to the author. Anime means manga adaptation. Multiple adaptations mean more money. Even if the anime is ruined by the producers hiring horrible VAs and screwing up the animation quality, it is a milestone for light novel authors.

  3. rjacklong says:

I really think it will be one-cour. At a rate of around 2.5 episodes per volume, they can squeeze it out in 12-13 episodes. I don’t think there is enough material for 2 cour, since for example Tokyo Ravens did like 10 volumes for a 2-cour show.

Of course, I think there may be a second season once the Gryps are done in the light novel.

    • DigitalAK27 says:

2 cour is able to squeeze in more volumes due to the fact that thy can dedicate character development early on and cut out unnecessary parts later on. However for a one cour anime many aspects of the source material have to be axed to stay consistent to the source material. Think of “Black Bullet” for example, I hate the anime but love the source material, every character was unique and had tremendous amount of character which allowed every one of them give their personal and interesting take on the various situations they came across. The anime ditched so much of character development that everyone seemed like a pathetic cliche anime protagonist (or villian or sub-character) with no explanation. I could go on for a long time about this matter, but “Black Bullet” had one of the shortest climax fight scene I have ever seen (chapters worth of combat was reduced to 5 minutes).

  4. Atamahead027 says:

Aniplex; Aniplex; Aniplex. They usually make it 2 cours doesn’t they?

  5. Moissonneur66 says:

I just hope they keep some of the character development and steer away from Madan No Outo Vanadis in the sense where all aspects of character development were taken out. Don’t get me wrong the fights in Madan were certainly enjoyable but the character’s that i grew to love in the novel are mere cardboard cutout’s of their light novel selves due to the total lack of character development.

  6. Blahto Blahtoto says:

Aniplex………… start saving money now xD

  7. Dave says:

Let’s just hope that this won’t cause the novel to get licensed.

  8. Best Girl Never Wins says:

All they have to do for Saijaku is just animate that single fight scene where Lux murders 1200 Drag-Knights on his own, with perfect lighting and burning backdrop, and I will never be in want for more animation.

  9. bluemoon says:

I hope that the anime would deliver justice to the light novel by sticking to it and cut out important points . For me, this novel is actually a good read.

Anyway, this demands a celebration XD

    • bluemoon says:

Edit: “and cut out important points” – I meant to say ” and NEVER miss important points”

    • Blahto Blahtoto says:

I doubt it though, after all it’s a Light Novel. I’m pretty sure you already know the things about light novel being adapted into anime.

  10. It Begins says:

FINALLY. I know it seems kinda obvious but I’m so glad all of these wonderful series are getting animes! I know they mostly end up bad compared to source material due to 12 episode constraints, but heck, at least it gets more people INTERESTED

  11. meganeshounen says:

I was extremely surprised to see a PV of this. Never thought it would get animated so soon.

  12. benny17 says:

Already saw the pv that was circulating around, they showed characters that at least appeared in volume 5 … I hope it won’t rush the story just to cram more volumes 😦

  13. ser says:

I was going to dismiss this since “the will screw this up royally”, but DAMN that trailer is good!

  14. EzalorX says:

What happened to gakusen vol.7 I thought u in middle of translating that ?

    • dualxblades says:

Put on hold for now until Madan is done, Setsuna will release chps 1-5 of it when they’re done being edited though.

  15. malethicus says:

I hate when animes in a rush to get the story done, compress the source material too much to the point that it almost can’t be watched. On the other hand, sometimes the anime tries too hard to avoid this and drag it out to the point that it still can’t really be watched…

It is a dangerous tight-rope like situation and I wish the animators the best.

  16. Blahto Blahtoto says:

    Oh btw it’s A-1 pictures ^_^

  17. Takatathien says:

Color me surprise!! Those epic fighting scene and the unexpectedly good music made up for the unoriginal plot. Now I can’t wait to watch this.

  18. dualxblades says:

Mhmmmm I don’t know how I feel about this having an english trailer, it isn’t that good I don’t like the narrator’s voice, animation is ok but the faces though seem a bit off especially Ayato’s. The music was meh imho, oh well just have to wait and see still a ways away.

  19. Sarksz says:

Its good that anime is out but i hope yen press dont licensed this LN because it will take years to catch up to the latest volume well that my personal opinion though lol, the anime adaptions seems decent enough 🙂

  20. madsurtech says:

Digimon tri is what i am the most excited for : D sorry gakuen

  21. Khaos says:

That English was traumatizing *sigh* either way i really doubt it would be more than 1 cour, if we’re lucky, we’d get a few OVAs or something. But from what I’ve seen so far, i don’t like this adaptation, just my thoughts though

  22. 이키 says:

Yen Press will license this novel soon after . . . and we are f*ucked!

    • Shiroyan says:

True, just like other series. So, somebody stahp them! OTL

    • Spid says:

Agreed, thats the sad truth… Yen press is on licensing rampage. If the anime was good, Yen press puts its dirty hands on the LN rights asap.

    • Takatathien says:

Lol, Midan ou no vanadis has a higher chance of getting license. So until then, I think Asterisk is safe.

      • spidee143 says:

Well the Madan anime wasnt good, it was rushed, short and they left so much out from the LN. So, in my opinion, Yen Press does not categorised it as a good anime and “license material”. It did not created large hype in the US and Yen Press needs that to sell its licensed LNs well. Money talks you know.

    • happinezz001 says:

I seriously wish they don’t license it they always license LNs at a wrong time and they always target the interesting ones

  23. moehawkman says:

I hope they don’t cut out everything to make it fit into 12 episodes.

  24. RedApple says:

    Kiiriiin my waifuu~ ❤ XD

  25. Setz_Sora says:

Since everyone had already made quite a long comment, I’ve got nothing to say except *thumbs up*. I hope they don’t rush it, though.

  26. WhiteOwl says:

Thanks 4 the info of the animation. (^^)
Chinese cartoon? If u mean ”made in China” Cartoon, I recommend ”Wangpai Yushi” (a very funny one… at least for me. It have some eps w/ eng subs in youtube) and ”Yaoguai Mingdan” (well, this one is about ‘youkais’. Same w/ this one, w/ subs in youtube).

  27. Srsly thou says:

I literally crapped my pants at that trailer. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go wipe my mind off my butt

  28. Borb says:

Dear God the characters look hideous. I really hope the anime looks better than this PV.

  29. sarksz says:

OMG i just realize Kirin in anime adaptation look chubby almost not recognise her there lol

  30. kenchan223 says:

I can’t stop replaying the PV!!! The music is to goood!~

  31. Sigh I am still waiting for vol 3 of Saijaku Bahamut to be translated…

    • Kuratatsu says:

Vol 3 is chill and all but vol 5 is where it gets really awesome with Yoruka ❤

Btw, I'm seeing mixed opinions on the gakusen pv but both the animation and the choice of bgm seem pretty good to me.

  32. Saijaku is chinese ? Never knew that till now…

  33. crash3-16 says:

    And here is Bahamut http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-05-10/undefeated-bahamut-chronicle-light-novel-series-gets-tv-anime/.88013

Wow , that means every LN Setsuna is translating had or is going to have an anime adaptation
